Grammar ~ Pieces of Information

Today we are starting an exploration into the depths of English pronunciation, as a novel concept of communicative grammar. This is actually the mechanics of splitting sentences into segments of meaning, which in turn give the intonation of these segments, which we call units or pieces of information.

Please find this lesson on the Pieces of Information page.

I added this lesson in the section of pronunciation, so you will be able to access it from the English Pronunciation page as well. I hope you will enjoy it and will find it useful for improving your verbal fluency.

Writing ~ Phrases

Having realised that we had the lesson for clauses and the one for sentences, but nothing on phrases so far, I decided the moment came for us to close that gap.

Please find today's lesson on the Phrases page. Phrases are the starting point for other expressions like idioms and this is just an introduction to the concept. You need to be aware that phrases are a complex category - you only need to think of noun phrase, adjectival phrase, prepositional phrase or adverbial phrase to realise this.

Everything in its good timing - I hope you can enjoy this lesson to start with.

English for Work ~ The Pros and Cons of Teaching

You may have realised that one of my favourite professions is teaching. However, today I'm bringing to your attention the advantages and disadvantages of teaching. You can find these ideas on the Pros and cons of teaching page.

Please let me know if you agree (or disagree) and send in your comments, if you find a couple of minutes to spare. Enjoy the food for thought in the meanwhile.

This is it for now, my friends!

I hope you find this information useful and not too confusing. Even though you're at the stage of building on it, have patience at this point in your learning and you'll be able to reap the fruit of your work later on, whichever aspect of our lessons you are concentrating on.

Please feel free to comment and suggest your ideas by replying to this email - I look forward to hearing from you. If you wish to chat either with me or with other members worldwide, go to My English Club .

All the best from me until next time,

Lucia da Vinci
